PUMP OUT STATIONS

The Clean Vessel Act Program was first authorized in Mississippi in 1994. Since then, Mississippi Department of Marine Resources has been committed to cleaning up the quality of coastal waters by prohibiting the discharge of raw sewage into state waters.

MDMR promotes participation in the Clean and Resilient Marina Initiative, which is a voluntary, incentive-based program that encourages marina and recreation boaters to protect coastal water quality by engaging in environmentally sound operating and maintenance procedures. The program offers information, guidance and technical assistance to marina operators, local governments and recreation boaters on best management practices to reduce or prevent pollution.

Below are the Mississippi marinas that have fully functioning pump-out or dump stations for proper disposal of all vessel wasters. Certified Clean & Resilient Marinas are marked with the  symbol.

WHY USE A PUMP-OUT STATION?

Studies prove that boat sewage dumped into waterways affect aquatic plants, fish and other animals. Using a pump-out station to properly dispose of waste helps reduce overboard sewage discharge, resulting in cleaner waters and healthier fish and shellfish populations.

PUMP-OUT BOATS

A pump-out boat, purchased through the Clean Vessel Act program, is available to provide mobile sewage disposal to boaters in the three coastal counties and barrier islands. Call Mitchell Marine at 228-875-1042 for mobile pump-out services.

APPLY FOR PUMP-OUT INSTALLATION

All designated marinas must have fully functioning pump-out or dump stations for proper disposal of all vessel wastes, as required by the Commission on Marine Resources in Title 22 Part 10. Owners of marinas, harbors and other boating facilities may apply thought MDMR for grants to install pump-out stations.
