Commercial fishing seasons begin in Jan., Feb.


BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources are reminding commercial fishermen that the red drum and flounder seasons began Jan. 1.

The total allowable catch for red drum is 35,000 pounds per year, and the TAC for flounder is 74,000 pounds per year.

The commercial season for spotted seatrout begins Feb. 1, and the TAC is 50,000 pounds. This season is divided into two time periods: Feb. 1-May 31 and June 1-Sept. 30, with 25,000 pounds allowed for each period. If the TAC is not met or exceeded in the first time period, the TAC will be adjusted for the second period.

When those totals are reached, the DMR will close the season.
