Grand Bay NERR to host Owls of the Reserve

BILOXI, Miss. – The Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve will host “Owls of the Reserve: A Nighttime Owl Calling Adventure,” from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at the NERR’s Coastal Resources Center.

Participants will learn how to call an owl and get it to fly toward them in an environmentally friendly way. Anita Salinas, guest speaker and animal handler, will use educational animals that can’t be released to teach how an owl catches its prey, flies quietly and sees at night. Those attending are encouraged to bring a camera.

After the live-action show, everyone will take a trailer ride to the birding trail and call owls. You must wear closed-toe shoes to participate in the trail walk. Please bring a flashlight and bug spray.

All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. The center is located at 6005 Bayou Heron Road in Moss Point.
