Application by Jackson County Port Authority to fill wetlands for the construction of a manufacturing facility on Saracennia Rd, Jackson Co

Jackson County Port Authority has filed notice of a proposed project which requires review by the MS Department of Marine Resources to ensure compliance with the state’s approved Coastal Program under the Coastal Zone Management Act.

The applicant proposes to impact 25.12 acres of wetlands for the construction of an aerospace manufacturing facility to strengthen national aviation technology commerce adjacent to Saracennia Road in Jackson County, Mississippi. The total project site is approximately 26.26 acres in size of which 26.11 acres have been identified as wetlands. Impacts include clearing and filling 25.12 acres of wetlands for the construction of an office, warehouse, manufacturing spaces, parking areas, sidewalks, driveways, and utilities. Alternative designs were considered, such as fewer buildings with less parking, but rejected due the designs not providing a fully functional aerospace manufacturing facility from the start. The applicant proposes to provide inkind compensatory mitigation through a mitigation bank.
