Application by MS Department of Marine Resources to maintain 63 inshore artificial reef areas in Jackson, Harrison, and Hancock counties by application of cultch material as needed

The MS Department of Marine Resources has filed notice of a proposed project which requires review by the MS Department of Marine Resources to ensure compliance with the state’s approved Coastal Program under the Coastal Zone Management Act.

The applicant is proposing to maintain 63 existing inshore artificial reef areas throughout Jackson, Harrison, and Hancock counties. Each low-profile reef is approximately 10 acres in size and will be maintained by placement of cultch material consisting of oyster shell, crusthed concrete, limestone, or other appropriate materials as needed over the next 10 years.
