BILOXI, Miss. – The state Commission on Marine Resources certified two state fishing records at yesterday’s monthly meeting.

Maddox McDaniel, 11, of Sumrall set the youth state record using conventional tackle for Spotted Seatrout (Cynoscion nebulosus) with a fish weighing 5 pounds, 5.6 ounces.

Doug Borries of Ocean Springs set a new state record for Lady Fish (Elops saurus) with a fish weighing 5 pounds, 6.064 ounces using conventional tackle.

“Our agency always looks forward to new fish records and seeing the various species being caught in our waters,” said Mississippi Department of Marine Resources Executive Director Joe Spraggins. “We also enjoy seeing our youth get involved by submitting records for their own category. Congratulations to both of our new state record holders for a job well done.”
