Commercial Red Drum season closes July 18

BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced Friday that the commercial fishing season for Red Drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) will close in Mississippi territorial waters on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 11:59 p.m.


The season will reopen on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at 12:01 a.m.


The yearly quota for commercial Red Drum is 60,000 pounds. The Commission on Marine Resources has set three four-month seasons with a 20,000-pound quota in each season.
