Deer Island Coastal Preserve trails, interior portions reopened after July 4 wildfire

BILOXI, Miss. – After a complete assessment of the areas affected by wildfire on July 4 at Deer Island, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) has reopened the trails and interior portions of the island. The MDMR Office of Coastal Preserves has assessed the area, and it is clear from all possible hazards.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
