DMR to display newly acquired vessels Nov. 5

16-76-MMS| November 4, 2016

BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources are inviting the public to Point Cadet Plaza from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, to see its new vessels.

The offices of Marine Fisheries and Marine Patrol recently purchased boats that will aid in scientific research and law enforcement. These boats will be on display under the pavilion at Point Cadet.

Also on display in the water will be The Conservationist, an oyster boat the DMR acquired in the 1980s. In 2014, the boat experienced a mechanical failure and sank. The vessel has been repaired and will be used for the transport of oysters.

The public will be allowed to board the boats, and staff will be available to answer questions.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
