BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources wants to remind anglers that Saturday, July 4, is designated as “Free Saltwater Sportfishing Day” on the Coast. Any person may sport fish in saltwaters, which are waters south of Interstate 10, without a license.
However, all size and possession limits remain in effect.
Fishermen also are reminded that the recreational fishing season for Gag (Mycteroperca microlepis) opened in Mississippi territorial waters on July 1, 2015.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
