MCMR certifies new state saltwater fishing record for greater amberjack

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources (MCMR) certified a Mississippi recreational saltwater conventional tackle record during its April 15 meeting.

 

Don Wheeler of Laurel broke the state conventional record for greater amberjack with a 126‐pound fish on March 22, 2014. The previous record was 124.4 pounds set in 2012.

 

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
