NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service Proposed Rule Change for For-Hire Operators

NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service has filed notice of a proposed rule change which requires review by the MS Department of Marine Resources to ensure compliance with the state’s approved Coastal Program under the Coastal Zone Management Act.

The proposal would promulgate regulations to provide an opportunity to for-hire operators with a federal charter vessel/headboat permit for Gulf reef fish or Gulf and Atlantic coastal migratory pelagic species to report a malfunction with a vessel’s location-positioning device. Full proposal details can be reviewed at the link below.

Any person wishing to make comments or objections to the proposed activity must submit those comments in writing to Danielle Koushel by mail at the Department of Marine Resources at 1141 Bayview Avenue, Biloxi, Mississippi 39530, by email at danielle.koushel@dmr.ms.gov, or by using the form below before 1:00 p.m. on the day October 17, 2022.
