Open house and hayride set for Dec. 12 at Grand Bay NERR

BILOXI, Miss. – The Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Jackson County will hold a free open house and hayride from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12.

 

The annual holiday open house will include a meet-and-greet with staff members, such as Dr. Ayesha Gray, the new manager of the Grand Bay NERR. Other events include a stargazing hayride and a night hike along the birding trail. Dec. 12 is one of the peak viewing nights for the Geminids Meteor Shower.

 

Participants are encouraged to bring their smartphones or tablets with a stargazing app already downloaded to make it easier to identify constellations.

 

Free chili, chicken and starts soup and soft drinks will be served from 5-6 p.m. Later in the evening, attendees will be served cookies, hot chocolate and coffee.

 

Additional items participants may want to bring are a lawnchair and a headlight/flashlight with a red light option; telescope, binoculars, camera, blanket and bug spray. This event will be held rain or shine.
