BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced today that the recreational fishing seasons for Gag (Mycteroperca microlepsis) and Greater Amberjack (Seriola dumerili) will open in Mississippi territorial waters on September 1, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. local time.
The recreational fishing season for Gag will close on October 1, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. local time, and the recreational fishing season for Greater Amberjack will close on October 14, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. local time.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
