Proposed Rule by the National Marine Fisheries Service

NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service has filed notice of a proposed rule which requires review by the MS Department of Marine Resources to ensure compliance with the state’s approved Coastal Program under the Coastal Zone Management Act.

The applicant is proposing a rule that would consider prohibiting the commercial and recreational retention of oceanic whitetip sharks in U.S. waters of the Atlantic Ocean, including the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, and all hammerhead sharks in the large coastal sharks complex (i.e., great, smooth, and scalloped hammerhead sharks) in U.S. waters of the Caribbean Sea.
