Spotted seatrout, red grouper seasons to close

BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced Thursday that two fishing seasons will close in October: Commercial spotted seatrout and recreational red grouper.

 

The commercial fishing season for spotted seatrout will close in Mississippi territorial waters on Oct. 1, 2014, at 12:01 a.m. That season will reopen on Feb. 1, 2015, at 12:01 a.m.

 

The recreational fishing season for red grouper will close in Mississippi territorial waters on Oct. 4, 2014, at 12:01 a.m.

 

These orders were made under the authority of Mississippi Code Ann. 49-15-15(1)(a) and through the authority granted to the executive director of MDMR by the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources.

 

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
