BILOXI, Miss. – Are you curious about the bats that call Mississippi home? If so, make plans to attend the Grand Bay NERR’s June Adventure Quencher: “The Bats of Mississippi and Where they Live” from 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 20.
Kathy Shelton, a bat biologist with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks’ Museum of Natural Science, will present the program. She will talk about the biology of the bat, bats that can be found in Mississippi, bat management, threats to bats and current research in Mississippi.
After the presentation, attendees will go into the field to catch bats in mist nets and see them up close.
Those attending should wear closed-toe shoes that can get wet or boots, a lightweight long-sleeved shirt and pants to protect from bugs and tall grasses. Participants also might want to bring a flashlight, bottle of water, snacks and bug spray.
Children are welcome, but they must be accompanied by an adult.
The free program will be held at the Grand Bay NERR’s Coastal Resources Center, 6005 Bayou Heron Road, Moss Point, 39562. For directions, go to www.grandbaynerr.org.
