11-113-CWS | October 18, 2011

BILOXI, Miss. — The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources’ (MDMR) Marine Patrol responded to a call of a capsized vessel, which occurred Tuesday morning at the west tip of Horn Island; four people were ejected from the boat, but none sustained serious injuries.

The call came in to MDMR Marine Patrol at 10:25 a.m. and Marine Patrol officers Matt Kasovich, Patrick Webb and Rocky Southern were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The boat’s operator, Jon Barr, 27, of Petal, Miss., said that a wave hit the boat, causing it to capsize and eject him and three adult passengers. Two of the four were wearing life vests when they were ejected.

The involved individuals swam to the south side of Horn Island where Marine Patrol officers Kasovich and Webb met them around 10:41 a.m. and transported them safely to the Biloxi Small Craft Harbor where American Medical Response was standing by. All four passengers declined medical attention.
