To legally operate a vessel, any person born after June 30, 1980 are required to pass a Boating Education course that is approved by Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks

In addition, to operate a motorboat or a personal watercraft, a person under 12 years of age must be accompanied onboard by someone who is at least 21 years old. The boating education certificate must be carried onboard the vessel whenever it is operated by someone required to have the certificate.

The following classes are free and open to the public. The minimum age to attend classes is 10 years old. All classes are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (unless otherwise stated) These are classes that are specifically instructed by an MDMR Marine Patrol officers. Classes with less than 10 students will be cancelled and students will have the option to attend the next available class.
