BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) will hold two turtle excluder device (TED) gear workshops at the Bolton State Building, July 18 and July 19, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Both workshops will be conducted in English; a Vietnamese translator will translate the July 19 workshop.
The informal workshops will be a refresher course on the current TED design requirements, and will feature a newly‐developed DVD describing TED regulations and design. Demonstration TEDs will be available at the workshop.
Longtime industry researcher and adviser Gary Graham, with the Texas Sea Grant Program will be available to answer questions and point out important elements of the excluders that need special attention.
These workshops will be underwritten by the Gulf&South Atlantic Fisheries Foundation, Inc., an industry organization.
