MDMR closing recreational greater amberjack season, opening commercial red drum season

BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced this week that the recreational fishing season for Greater Amberjack (Seriola dumerili) will close in Mississippi territorial waters at 12:01 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2015.

 

The commercial fishing season for Red Drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) will open in Mississippi territorial waters at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, and close when the quota is met.

 

Both the closing and opening are under the authority of Mississippi Code Ann.49-15-15(1)(a)(2009) and through the authority granted to the executive director of the MDMR by the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources.
