MDMR Extends Limited Mississippi Oyster Season for Tonging Only

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) announces that the limited 2012-2013 Mississippi Oyster Season—for tonging only—shall be authorized to extend past the Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 closing date. The closing date of the limited 2012-2013 Mississippi Oyster Season, for tonging only, will be set at a later date.

 

The closing date of the limited 2012-2013 Mississippi Oyster Season for dredging is still set for 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012.

 

The Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources in their regularly scheduled meeting of Oct. 16, 2012, had authorized the Executive Director of the MDMR to open and close a limited 2012-2013 Mississippi Oyster Season for oyster harvesting in Area II Approved and Conditionally Approved Waters, as well as to extend the limited Mississippi Oyster Season beyond the original closing date of Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.

 

Additionally, The Bayou Caddy Oyster Check Station shall be closed after 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012. The Pass Christian Oyster Check Station will be the only authorized check station for commercial and recreationally licensed oyster harvesters for the remainder of the season.

 

All other rules, orders and regulations will be in full force and effect.
