MDMR Marine Patrol Recovers Body from Sound, May Be Missing Kayaker

BILOXI, Miss. —The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) Marine Patrol recovered the body of a young white male about 4.3 miles south of Biloxi beach. A charter boat fisherman called Marine Patrol at 1:10 p.m. today to report a body floating in the Mississippi Sound. Marine Patrol officers recovered the body at 1:37 p.m. and notified the Harrison County Coroner. The body matches the description of a kayaker who has been missing since Feb. 27, but positive identification is pending.

 

Marine Patrol began a search and rescue mission on Feb. 27 for two missing kayakers who launched from Ocean Springs Harbor. The body of one of the kayakers, Kenneth Rainer, 57, was recovered near the Biloxi east channel on Feb. 28. Marine Patrol has continued 24-hour patrols of the area in search of missing kayaker Nick Rainer, 22.
