MDMR to hold public hearing on oyster aquaculture

BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources will hold a public hearing next week about an off-bottom aquaculture project south of Deer Island.

 

The hearing begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, in the auditorium of the Bolton Building, 1141 Bayview Ave., Biloxi.

 

Those who attend will get an overview of the project and then have the opportunity to comment.

 

At 5 p.m., representatives from MDMR will be available to talk about the aquaculture proposal and answer questions.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
