Marine fisheries staff are utilizing a Sport Fish Restoration grant to study and track Atlantic Tripletail using pop-up satellite tags. Data from these tags will provide substantial information on migratory patterns and seasonal movements of Atlantic Tripletail. Atlantic Tripletail can be found in Mississippi state waters in the warmer months of the year, which is when the species is widely believed to spawn. Atlantic Tripletail are not known to inhabit Mississippi state waters in the cooler months of the year, and little is known about their preferred habitat usage during that period. Gaining a better understanding of these migratory patterns will help MDMR Fisheries staff better manage this increasingly popular sport fish.
