CMR to meet in Jackson County

13-106-MMS| October 10, 2013

BILOXI, Miss. – The Commission on Marine Resources will hold its October meeting at the Grand Bay NERR’s Coastal Resources Center in Jackson County.

Commissioners normally meet at the Bolton Building on Bayview Avenue in Biloxi, but at the July meeting members voted to hold some meetings at other locations along the Coast.

“We represent the entire Coast, and we feel it’s important to meet in different areas so that residents from all three counties can attend,” said Jimmy Taylor, chairman of the Commission.

“The NERR serves as a key research and education facility for the northern Gulf of Mexico,” said MDMR Executive Director Jamie Miller. “We are proud to showcase this facility at our October commission meeting. We invite the public to tour this resource center at the conclusion of the meeting.”

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. Oct. 15. The agenda for the meeting, as well as directions to the Grand Bay NERR, are attached.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
