Commercial Red Drum season closes March 25

BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced Thursday that the commercial fishing season for Red Drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) will close in Mississippi territorial waters on Friday, March 25, at 12:01 p.m.

 

The season will reopen on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at 12:01 a.m.

 

The yearly quota for commercial Red Drum is 60,000 pounds. The Commission on Marine Resources has set three four-month seasons with a 20,000-pound quota in each season.

 

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
