BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced Friday that the commercial fishing harvest for Red Drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) will close in Mississippi territorial waters at 12:01 a.m. local time Sunday, Sept. 6.
This closing is under the authority of Mississippi Code Ann. 49-15-15(1)(a)(2009) and through the authority granted to the executive director of the MDMR by the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
