14-98-CWS | December 11, 2014

BILOXI, Miss. – Jamie Miller, executive director of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, issued the following statement after comments about the agency were made Thursday morning at a Jackson County chamber breakfast:

“The events that occurred at the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources under the previous administration were serious. Those issues have been rectified, and I am proud of the hard work of our employees to establish an honest and transparent agency moving forward,” Miller said. “The situation at Singing River Hospital System involves different circumstances and should not be compared to what happened with the previous MDMR administration.”

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
