MDMR reopens oyster reefs to tonging

BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources said Friday that several oyster reefs will reopen to tonging at legal sunrise Saturday, March 8.
The areas that will open are:

 

Area II “C” Conditionally Approved Waters – and its subdivisions of II “E,” II “F” and II “G” – These areas include southern portions of the Pass Christian and Henderson Point reefs, Square Handkerchief Reef and northern portions of the Pass Marianne and Telegraph reefs.
All other areas will remain closed to the harvest of oysters, and all other oyster harvest rules and regulations remain in effect.
This order is in accordance with the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources, Title 22, Part 1 and the “Order Opening the 2013-2014 Limited Mississippi Oyster Season in Certain Waters Classified as Approved or Conditionally Approved by the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources, and Placing Certain Restrictions on Oyster Harvesting Activities.”
