19-41-LST| July 12, 2019

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) invites all interested Mississippi recreational saltwater fishermen and for-hire vessel owners to attend a Red Snapper Summit on Tuesday, May 6, at 6 p.m. at the Biloxi Civic Center (adjacent to the Biloxi Public Library), 578 Howard Avenue in Biloxi. The objective is to solicit input on management of the red snapper recreational fishery and data collection methods and inform attendees on the history of the red snapper recreational fishery and the recent decision by the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council to reduce the length of the season.

A representative of the Council will give a presentation on the state of the red snapper fishery in the Gulf of Mexico and the various red snapper fishery management alternatives. Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a facilitated discussion to provide their input on potential management for the red snapper recreational fishery. This information will be brought back to the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council, which is responsible for setting harvest criteria for this fishery.
