12-33-CWS | April 25, 2012

BILOXI, Miss. – Maritime Development Center, LLC has filed an application with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) requesting permission to construct a bulkhead, keyhole boat slip and dredge on the north bank of Bernard Bayou in Gulfport. The project is located at 13085 Seaway Road, Gulfport, Miss.

A public hearing will be held on May 8, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at the Bolton State Building located at 1141 Bayview Avenue in Biloxi. The public hearing will not be a question and answer session, but will be a medium for concerned parties to make comments about the proposed project for the public record. More information on the application can be obtained at the MDMR office at 1141 Bayview Avenue, Biloxi, MS, 39530, on the MDMR website, or by calling 228-523-4118.

The applicant’s proposal would include installation of a keyhole boat slip measuring 100 feet wide by 160 feet long; installation would require approximately 10,000 cubic yards of upland excavation. The proposal includes construction of a bulkhead approximately 970 feet in length and dredging of approximately 5,600 cubic yards of waterbottoms adjacent to the proposed boat slip and bulkhead. The applicant also seeks to remove piers and mooring pilings currently located on the project site.

The applicant may be required to request and justify two variances to the Mississippi Coastal Program concerning their use of a keyhole boat slip as opposed to an indented boat slip and concerning water depth adjacent to the proposed bulkhead and boat slip. In compliance with Section 401 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act, the applicant will request certification from the Office of Pollution Control that the above-mentioned activity will be in compliance with applicable provisions of the Act and appropriate requirements of the State Law.

Any person wishing to make comments or objections to the proposed regulated activity must submit those comments in writing to the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources at 1141 Bayview Ave., Biloxi, MS 39530, and the Office of Pollution Control, P.O. Box 2261, Jackson, MS 39225-2261 before 1 p.m. on May 7, 2012.
