BILOXI, Miss. – The recreational fishing season for Red Snapper will close in Mississippi on Friday, Aug. 17, at 11:59 p.m.
Preliminary estimates from the Tails ‘n Scales reporting system indicate the annual catch target for the private recreational fishery is projected to be reached by the weekend.
The MDMR has the authority to reopen the recreational Red Snapper fishery if finalized landings indicate additional harvest would remain within the quota allowed under the Federal Exempted Fishing Permit.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
