USCG Safety Zone – Bayou Casotte
Notice is given to mariners the U.S Coast Guard has established a safety zone on the Bayou Casotte Channel to be enforced immediately and will remain in effect until salvage operations of a sunken vessel are complete. This safety zone includes a 200-yard radius from approximate position 30°18.863′ N, 088°30.808′ W, in the vicinity of buoy “5” LLN 8450. This safety zone is necessary to protect mariners and response personnel during emergency salvage operations of a sunken vessel that was last reported on the Channel’s west edge. Due to prevailing and predicted weather conditions vessel movement is possible.
Under the general safety zone regulations in subpart C of 33 CFR 165, no person may enter, transit through, or remain in the safety zone unless authorized by the COTP or a designated representative. To seek permission to enter, contact the COTP or the COTP’s representative on VHF-CH 16 during the enforcement period. Those in the safety zone must comply with all lawful orders or directions given to them by the COTP or the COTP’s designated representative. Failure to comply with the requirements of this safety zone may subject persons to a civil penalty of up to $117,608.
