MDMR Marine Patrol Rescues Kayaker

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) Marine Patrol received a call at 6:34 p.m. Sunday, May 19, reporting that a kayaker was in the water after his 8-foot kayak had overturned in the waters on the Ocean Springs side of the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Bridge. At 6:48 p.m., MDMR Marine Patrol arrived on the scene and brought the kayaker to shore.

Marine Patrol Officers Kyle Wilkerson and Mario Sapet transported the man, George Meek of Vancleave, who was wearing a life jacket, to shore at Ocean Springs Harbor at 6:59 p.m. No medical attention was required. Other agencies responding included the Biloxi Fire Department and the Ocean Springs Police Department.
